Welcome to Spawning Culture

The Mossy Creek Mushrooms Blog

Every grower hits that point where curiosity takes over — Why did this Lion’s Mane do that?, Is there a better substrate mix for oysters?, How do people even start breeding mushrooms? If you’ve ever gone down those rabbit holes, you’re in the right place.

Spawning Culture is the new home for all the long-form things we never quite have room for on YouTube or Instagram. Think deep dives into fungal genetics, practical grow guides, Hericium cultivation tips, behind-the-scenes looks at our strain development, and the odd tangent about logs, wetlands, or whatever experiment we’re running in the lab that week.

Our goal with this blog is pretty simple:
bring more people into the world of mushroom cultivation by making the complicated stuff feel a whole lot more approachable.

You’ll see posts like:

      • How to get reliable Lion’s Mane yields without babysitting every block

      • Why different strains behave so wildly different on the same substrate

      • What really matters in liquid culture (and what doesn’t)

      • The truth about mushroom supplements and how extraction actually works

      • Step-by-step grow guides for beginners that don’t talk down to anyone

We’ll also use Spawning Culture to share updates on the Mycologeum Project, new strains coming out of the breeding program, class announcements, and the occasional “here’s what’s going on behind the curtain” post when something wild happens in the lab.

Whether you’re a beginner trying to grow your first Lion’s Mane or a seasoned farmer looking for that one tip that turns a good harvest into a great one, this blog is meant to be useful, honest, and worth your time.

    Thanks for being here.
    Let’s grow something interesting together.
