The Beauty and Uniqueness of Mushrooms

By Melanie Andromidas

Often mushrooms are portrayed as ugly, boring things that taste like rubber, but that’s far from the full truth. Not all mushrooms are pretty, that is true, but there are plenty that are. Tastes differ as much as the appearances do, and the variety might surprise you.

Shiitake are one of the meatier mushrooms, and one of the more well known.

Pink Oysters are one of the most vibrant mushrooms, with a bright pink coloring when they’re ready to harvest. They whiten as they get older, however.

Reishi are one of the mushrooms known to have the most health benefits, often made into a tea that has an earthy taste.

N&G Oysters are a Mossy Creek Original and are more firm and savory than many oysters, which are normally known to be on the sweeter side.

Gold Oysters are another one that provide a pop of color while growing, bringing a sunshiny feel indoors.

The Comb Tooth has a very unique look, and is a favorite for many due to its ability to taste similar to lobster if cooked just right.

Blue oysters have a little bit more subtle of a color than Pinks and Golds, a nice light blue that creates a nice accent to other colors and whites.

King Blue Oysters take the blue shade and add in a regal look, the royal cousins of the regular Blue.

Another from royalty, King Oysters rule the others with their increased size.

This is just a small sample of the variety of beautiful mushrooms that exist. There are millions of different strains all over the world, each with its own uniqueness. Limiting our view of mushrooms to the few that don’t capture the imagination is really shortchanging the world of the truly amazing benefits that mushrooms bring. Not just to humankind, but to the world as a whole.
